"Sobo" is hiker jargon for hiking a trail in a generally southward direction.

The word can function as a noun or verb. For example:

  • "I'm a sobo," which means, "I am hiking south from my starting point."
  • "I want to sobo the Pacific Crest Trail next year," which means, "I want to hike the Pacific Crest Trail travelling south from my starting point."
  • "I'm soboing the Appalachian Trail," which means, "I am hiking south on the Appalachian Trail."
