- The campground and services at Tuolumne Meadows is closed.[1] As of 2021, it is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2024.
2021
- Shanda Berto, operator of the Seiad Valley Cafe, passed away.[2]
- Burney Mountain Guest Ranch has been sold to new owners who are not offering hiker services.
- Big Lake Youth Camp is not offering hiker services this year due to COVID-19.
- September 10: Liz Bergeron, Executive Director and CEO of the PCTA, announces her upcoming retirement.[3]
- Zero Day Resupply is closed for 2021 due to procurement issues.
- Montezuma Valley Market is closed after a fire. The owners intend to reopen.
- Ravensong's Roost has been sold to new owners.
2020
- Etna Hiker Hut is no longer open.
- Hiker Heaven is now a limited availability AirBnB accommodation.
- Casa de Luna is no longer open.
- This is the last year Scout and Frodo will be providing trail angel services.
- Implementation of permit caps for hikers starting near the northern terminus (15 starts per day, June 1 - July 31).
- Implementation of Southern Sierra Continuous Travel rule.[4]
- The grocery store in Agua Dulce, California is now closed.
- Big Lake Youth Camp is not offering hiker services this year due to COVID-19.
- Etna Creek Outfitters is now open in Etna, California.
- The Warner Springs Community Center in Warner Springs, California, is reducing the services offered to hikers.
2019
- This was Hiker Heaven's last year offering services.
- This was Casa de Luna's last year offering services.
- Sonora Pass Resupply is now permanently closed.
2018
- The outfitter at Mt. Laguna is now closed.
- Montezuma Valley Market is now open and serving hikers in Warner Springs, California.
- Shreks's Place has permanently closed.
- Bus service is now available between the PCT and Mt. Shasta, California.
- The Kennedy Meadows General Store is under new ownership.
2017
- Andrea Dinsmore, the trail angel who ran Hiker Haven near Skykomish, Washington, passed away in December. Hiker Haven continues to host some hikers, but far fewer than before Andrea's passing.[5]
- Ziggy and The Bear, well-known trail angels in the Desert section, are no longer offering services.[6][7]
- Bear canisters are now required in Lassen Volcanic National Park.[8]
- Triple Crown Outfitters, a new outfitter in Kennedy Meadows, California is now open.

The film, Wild, written by Cheryl Strayed and starring Reese Witherspoon is released, significantly increasing both awareness and popularity of the PCT.
